Diagnostic Medical Procedures that are dangerous:

Expert doctors and scientists in this field will repeatedly tell everyone that preventive measures like self-examination, mammograms and even removal of infected breast are the best cure. However, there are non-conforming voices elsewhere regarding these things. Samuel S. Epstein, M.D., founder of the Cancer Prevention Coalition, claims that mammography is unreliable and used or profit by most medical practitioners. For him and the organization in general, routine exposure to mammograms can result to cumulative, noteworthy radiation risks and breast compression cancer. According to the data held by the Coalition notes, readings from mammograms are inaccurate and the use of this device has failed to decrease the breast cancer mortality rates.

Bad “Side effects” of self-exams:

Breast examinations that are Self-administered have also unreliable output. A Danish study conducted in 2003 revealed that regular self-examination result to increase risk of unnecessary medical treatment. Danish researchers found no major difference between females doing self-exam to those who not in terms of cancer mortality rates. Dr. Christiane Northrup, a Women’s health expert, clears that breast self-examinations can encourage attitude of search and destroy. She also provides encouragement to women by avoiding the approach of self-examining because of fear. It simply agitates the feeling of fear and robs you of the chance to generate healthy breast tissue.

Cancer-treating drug or cancer-causing drug?:

Females who are at a high-risk of contracting breast cancer can use Tamoxifen as a prescribed drug. This drug is a selective estrogen receptor-modulating drug (SERM) intended to stop tumors that are estrogen receptor-positive. However, there are known side-effects of this drug such as blood clots, uterine cancer and strokes. It is possible to develop estrogen receptor-negative tumors through intake of this drug and this is a worst case scenario. Studies conducted by researchers from UCSF, UC-Davis, McMaster University and University of Pittsburgh in 2006 revealed that this drug does not increase life expectancy in the case of high risk patients.

Genes and surgery:

Mastectomies are prescribed more and more to kill the anomalous genes known as BRCA1 or BRC2. Unfortunately, society has put it this way: go under the knife or die. There are only 5-10 percent of breast cancers patients having these genes. Research from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center evaluated the risk factor of breast cancer of 2,000 women from various countries. The study revealed that these mutated genes were one of the several risk factors. Lifestyle was also a factor according to the study.

Preventive methods campaigns – the real deal:

Sadly, the health education about breast cancer is for plain advertising and public relations and advertising. Example is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month sponsored by AstraZeneca, which is the company producing Tamoxifen. Unfortunately, lifestyle and diet change to prevent cancer are given less significance.

The medical means of treating breast cancer has been deeply tied up to business and profits and they slowly devoid the public about the importance of wellness in promoting and maintaining health through proper diet and lifestyle.
